Dear Friends and Colleagues,
Five years ago I opened a business, CURIO Studio & Collection, with the aim of showing unique art and connecting with collectors and artists, both in my community and around the world. My journey started with exhibiting and selling my own paintings… and expanded to showcasing other talented artists and curated exhibitions in the space, as well as internationally recognized art fairs around the US.
From a run-down building in the middle of a dodgy industrial neighborhood in Venice, my husband and I built a one-of-a-kind art environment that attracted discerning eyes, and we’re proud to say we were right there in the heart of it all, the moment our Venice neighborhood really “blew up” into a Google-infused-hipster-foodie-artist-hot spot, now known around the world as one of the coolest spots in the country!
With the support of our sponsors & patrons CURIO was able to grow and gain critical praise and recognition for our cutting edge shows and the public debuts of amazing artists such as Molly Schulps, Austin Irving, Daniel Rolnik, and Matt Doust, to name a few. From hard work and genuine passion, came the attention from some of the leading eyes in the art world. And, as many of you know, I also got the big break I’ve been waiting for all my life…
Today I am happy to announce that I’ve partnered with the venerable Martin Lawrence Galleries, who, since 1975, have operated multiple gallery locations nationwide, showing Picasso, Dali, Basquiat, Erté and Warhol, alongside contemporary artists. And now Martin Lawrence Galleries will be exclusively representing my work! My first solo show opened this past December in San Francisco at their Geary Street location, and was sold out by the end of it’s opening night! I’ll be announcing my upcoming exhibition schedule soon and can’t wait to visit cities around the USA with new art!
As such, now I will be focusing entirely on creating my own new works of art, with a full time painting, research and travel agenda. I wish I had the time to continue to promote other artist’s work I admire, but now is my time to take this incredible opportunity to paint my heart out, and focus the continuation of my career as an artist.
On April 30th 2015 I will be closing CURIO’s doors in Venice, CA. My husband Jacob and I will continue to divide our time between Los Angeles, Palm Springs and Europe as we move ahead with exciting new art and film projects. Curio’s online presence will remain and I’ll continue to be a proud part of the thriving Los Angeles Art Community. Perhaps, down the line, a new CURIO location may pop up in a city near you. But for now, I am excited for what the future holds for my paintings and thankful that I can continue my life’s work with the support and backing of an incredible gallery!
CURIO has been, from the beginning, an amazing springboard for artistic exploration and expression, and I’d like to thank those who shared the experience with me for their time and talent. I can’t wait to see what CURIO artists will do next and look forward to seeing their evolutions as well!! Onward and upward!
