A note from the curator... Matt Doust was born in 1984 in Santa Monica, California, and grew up in Perth Australia. He is best know for his giant, visually arresting portraits of beautiful melancholy faces, painted in a photo-realistic technique that begs for a closer look. With a cool, modern pallet of ivories, pinks, browns and flesh tones, his paintings are both ethereal and delicate, but refuse to be ignored. Doust is most defiantly one to watch… a painter-on-the-rise, having earned accolades abroad, including The Archibald Prize and a showing at the Sydney State Museum, The Swan Art award of Perth, and an Artist’s Residency at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Art. This is a truly talented young artist, and I am so pleased to debut Matt Doust’s newest painting Untitled Eye for the first time in the United States, here at CURIO Studio & Collection in Venice! ~Anne Faith Nicholls
